Honda launches updated Fit e:HEV in South Africa

Discover efficiency in motion with the new Honda Fit e:HEV, available at Motus Honda.

Honda South Africa have launched a refreshed Fit Hybrid model featuring new, sportier styling, alongside an increase in performance as well as the level of standard equipment included.

Refreshed design

A variety of new design elements include revised bumpers, creating a more cohesive, characterful aesthetic that better reflects the cars dynamic personality, while retaining the iconic shape of the Fit with clean, crisp horizontal lines that are characteristic of the fourth-generation model. Smooth contours follow the short nose, long roof line and cabin forward-style of previous generations.

Revised powertrain

The range topping Fit Hybrid model utilises Honda’s e:HEV hybrid technology that has now been treated to a 10kW increase in power, offering improved acceleration performance and refinement resulting in an even more dynamic driving experience while retaining the Fit’s exceptional efficiency.

The overall power increase is the result of a 10kW increase in power from the traction motor and an increase in engine power from 72 to 78kW. Total powertrain output now measures 90kW along with 253Nm of torque.

Despite these increases the powertrain only produces 88g/km of CO2 while using just 3,7 litres per 100km on the combined cycle.

State of the art hybrid system

The e:HEV system consists of two compact, powerful electric motors connected to a 1.5-litre DOHC i-VTEC petrol engine, a lithium-ion battery and an innovative fixed gear transmission coupled to an intelligent power control unit, which all work harmoniously together to provide a smooth and direct driving experience.

The electronically controlled Continuously Variable Transmission (e-CVT) with a single fixed-gear ratio creates a direct connection between moving components. The result is a smooth and reassuring transfer of torque with a linear feel during acceleration across all drive modes.

In order to deliver such a highly rewarding driving experience and exceptional efficiency, the advanced e:HEV hybrid set up seamlessly selects from three interchangeable drive modes.

In EV Drive the lithium-ion battery supplies power to the electric propulsion motor directly while in hybrid drive the engine supplies power to the electric generator motor, which in turn supplies power to the electric propulsion motor. In Engine Drive mode the petrol engine is connected directly to the wheels via a lock-up clutch and drive force is transmitted directly from the engine to the wheels.

Modern, well-appointed interior

Durable materials and soft-touch dashboard materials have been applied throughout the cabin. The uncluttered, user-focussed dashboard incorporates a slim instrument panel that sweeps horizontally across the cabin. A central HMI nine-inch touchscreen and seven-inch full TFT instrument cluster which is standard across the range are simple and easy to read.

In line with consumer preference, Honda has retained physical controls for key functions, with tactile, precise-feeling dials for heating and ventilation settings.

A comprehensive suite of built-in apps can be supplemented by smartphone mirroring, enabled by Android Auto and wireless Apple CarPlay.

The interior functionality has also been bolstered by the addition of a wireless charger adding to the model’s already comprehensive list of standard specification.

Luggage capacity with the rear seats in the upright position measures 298 litres and increases to an impressive 119 litres with the rear seats folded down. The Fit has retained its exceptionally versatile Magic seat configuration that offers both fold-flat or flip-up seat flexibility, offering optimum versatility to accommodate cargo of various shapes and sizes.

The latest in safety technology

The Fit incorporates Honda’s proprietary Advanced Compatibility Engineering body structure that forms the foundation for excellent passive safety performance and enhanced crash protection. Occupants are protected by six airbags.

Enhanced Honda Sensing active safety technology available exclusively on the Fit Hybrid model offers a broad range of driver assistance features and driver aids as standard including a Collision Mitigation Braking System, Adaptive Cruise Control, Lane Keeping Assist system, Road Departure Mitigation and Auto High-Beam.
