Honda CB750 hornet goes on sale in South Africa

The original CB600F Hornet, launched in the mid 90s, was an extremely popular motorcycle for a variety of reasons. Its compact, naked form was great around town, and it had the engine power and handling ability to carve corners with joyous enthusiasm. 

The brand-new middle weight CB750 Hornet takes inspiration and direction from its ancestor but brings the celebrated Hornet brand up to date while retaining the core principles of being fun to ride and having an affordable price tag.

The Honda CB750 Hornet has gone on sale with a renewed sting, lightweight design and class leading power to weight ratio thanks to a 67.7kW and 75Nm engine driving a 190kg package.

Thoroughly modern

Designers created a new, contemporary expression of technical beauty with the silhouette, lines and shaping in compact, elegant proportions. The main signature is the fuel tank, which takes inspiration from the shape of a hornet’s wing. Everywhere you look, from the aggressively angled nose-fairing to the razor sharp, minimal tail, there are hallmarks of tension and aggression, outlining true sporting intent.

Usability played a major role in the design and seat height is a very manageable 795mm along with an upright riding position and slightly rear set footpegs that allow for natural control in conjunction with wide handlebars for leverage.

Premium specification includes a five-inch colour TFT instrument display with Honda smartphone voice Control, full LED lighting, auto indicator cancel and emergency stop signal technology.

Powerful yet usable dynamics

The all-new eight valve parallel twin cylinder engine delivers a great combination of top end buzz and heaps of midrange usability. The 755cc parallel twin cylinder engine boasts 67,7kW and 75Nm of torque. Unicam eight valve cylinder heads employ downdraft air intakes and a vortex flow duct ensures optimal combustion.

A 270-degree crank and uneven firing order create a characterful, twin-cylinder pulse that delivers feel and character. The primary drive doubles as a balance shaft while an assist slipper clutch manages the six-speed gearbox.

In combination with the six-speed manual transmission the engine is designed to allow every rider to exploit the maximum. Exhilarating peak power but accessible low to midrange usability is perfect for the less experienced and a major boost to the enjoyment of everyday town riding.

Throttle by wire facilitates up to four riding modes and four levels of Honda selectable Torque Control with integrated wheelie control plus three levels of engine braking and power delivery.

Fuel consumption of 4,3 litres per 100km allows for a potential range of over 340km from the 15,2-litre fuel tank.

The engine is housed in a totally new steel diamond frame, which is extremely light weight. This new frame wears full Showa suspension including 41mm Separate Fork Function Big Piston USD forks and rear shock working through a ProLink setup. 

Dual front 296mm discs and Nissin radial-mount, four-piston callipers deliver impressive, fingertip stopping power, with excellent progressive feel through the lever. Further elevating handling and ride quality are lightweight wheels utilising Y-shaped spokes that measure 17-inches front and rear.

Accessories and pricing

Available accessories include a quick shifter, a rear seat cowl, bar end weights, handlebar upper clamp holder, heated grips, fly screen, wheel stripers, rider footpegs and protective skid bungs. A tank and seat bag provide soft luggage convenience, while a new rear pannier design offers hand luggage security.
