In 1959, Honda competed in the Isle of Man TT Race for the first time as company founder Soichiro Honda set the goal of becoming the world’s number one in technology. Honda also aims to achieve carbon neutrality in the world of motorsport and has been conducting research and development into technologies for carbon neutrality while proactively leveraging the field of motorsport and will strive to put these new technologies into practical use in their motorsport activities. Starting with motorcycles they will also explore the possibilities of introducing electrified models in the races where they compete.

The Honda Racing Corporation (HRC) has amalgamated its motorcycle and automobile racing activities and has started seeing positive effects of the mutual collaboration of the technologies and know how that Honda has amassed in these areas. For example, Honda are investigating the possibilities of suppling base vehicles suitable for participatory motorsports that will allow more enthusiasts to enter the world of motorsport, in the development of such vehicles Honda are using the experience gained from the motorcycle racing divisions which are already involved in such programmes.

From the second half of the 2022 Honda began incorporating expertise from its automobile racing divisions to refine the aerodynamics of its MotoGP contender and plans to implement the same collaboration in the area of combustion technology. For 2023, Joan Mir, the 2020 MotoGP champion, will join the Repsol Honda Team alongside Marc Marquez. Takaaki Nakagaami will be aboard the LCR Honda Idemitsu and Alex Rins joins HCR aboard the LCR Honda Castrol.
