All-new Honda CR-V goes on sale in South Africa

Sixth generation Honda-CR-V boasts enhanced sophistication

The sixth generation Honda CR-V has been launched with a sophisticated design inside and out, a more spacious interior, increased utility and a more advanced powertrain system for a sportier driving experience.

The all-new CR-V embodies the latest Honda design direction with a low horizontal beltline, a long, powerful front end and clean detailing. The front end is strong and powerful with a large, upright grille, which is a key design element of Honda’s rugged design direction, and standard LED headlights.

Longer and wider than its predecessor, the all-new CR-Vs sportier proportions are highlighted by a sleek roofline and a notably wider stance.

At the rear a sleek roof spoiler and new all-LED interpretation of the CR-Vs signature vertical taillights make the sixth generation CR-V instantly recognisable from the rear.

Radical repositioning of its windshield pillars is key to the CR-Vs new sportier proportions and improved visibility. The base of these A-pillars has moved 120mm rearward, 70mm outward and 35mm lower. Together with new door mounted side mirrors, these changes improve forward visibility.

Range topping Exclusive models feature even bolder styling thanks to a more aggressive front and rear facia and even sportier grill mesh highlighted with a gloss black accent. Exclusive models feature polished stainless-steel exhaust finishes, front and rear sports bumpers, 19-inch alloy wheels and a panoramic sunroof.

A thoroughly modern interior

Inside, the new CR-V is quieter, more comfortable and more versatile, with the most cabin and cargo space ever offered in a CR-V. With premium, high-quality materials, upscale touches and improved visibility, CR-Vs sporty, modern and spacious interior is a fresh take on Honda’s new interior design direction.

Premium materials have been used throughout the cabin, especially on touchpoints. Particular attention has been paid to the operation of all switchgear and controls including the click and heft of knobs, stalks and switches. A metallic finish on components such as the climate control knobs convey an upscale feel. A wide instrument panel features clean surfacing and a striking metal honeycomb mesh that conceals the air vents for an uncluttered and harmonious look. The nine-inch touchscreen infotainment system features wireless smartphone integration.

Executive models feature instrumentation that includes a new seven-inch colour TFT display. Flagship Executive models are fitted with a 10.2-inch Interactive All-Digital LCD Instrument cluster from where the driver can scroll through a variety of functions and displays.

The new centre console bin is the largest in its class, with a volume of nine litres while the storage tray ahead of the shifter is large enough to accommodate two smartphones side by side.

New front body stabilising seats reduce fatigue and enhance comfort by using multiple internal structures to provide improved support across the entire body, including a resin mat that supports the area from the pelvis to the lumbar spine. Forward and lateral pelvic tilt are reduced by the new curve of the seat bottom.

Both derivatives are fitted with standard black leather seats, with eight-way power adjustability on the drivers seat and four-way adjustability on the passenger seat. Heated seating for front passengers is also standard. Rear seat legroom has improved by 15mm and the rear seatbacks now recline in eight different angles up to a maximum of 10.5 degrees for a more relaxing passenger experience.

The interior is notably quieter thanks to enhanced sound deadening materials as well as the improved Active Noise Control.

The CR-V comes standard with new and advanced active and passive safety technology including the improved Honda Sensing safety and driver-assistive technology with a new front sensor camera and radar system. Honda Sensing functions include Collision Mitigation Braking System, Forward Collision Warning, Adaptive Cruise Control, Lane Keeping Assist and Road Departure Mitigation.

Next generation front airbags as well as front knee airbags are also standard. Improvements have also been made to the Adaptive Cruise Control and Lane Keeping Assist System.

Under the bonnet

The CRV’s strong new looks are backed up by a more fun-to-drive personality, more confident, refined dynamics and increased power and capability.

The new Honda CR-V is fitted with an updated and refined direct injection 1.5-litre turbocharged four-cylinder engine. Enhancements have been made to ensure a more refined driving experience and enhanced power delivery. The engine now offers 140kW at 6 000rpm and 240Nm from as low as 1 700rpm.

The CVT transmission in use has received some updates too and now features a quieter belt design and thicker casing to reduce vibrations. Significant drivability and performance improvements have been made thanks to the optimisation of Torque on Demand Control, early downshift during braking and improved refinements to the Honda G Design shift. At full throttle, the CR-V features Step Shift programming that simulates gear changes.
